Chile & Chucao Lodge

Two years in a row now, my family and I have been lucky to travel far from home over the holidays. Last year we were in New Zealand, and this year it is Southern Chile. We had an early Christmas at home with family, and then made the long trip to Santiago where we spent a few days. We visited our friend Gonzalo Cortes, who owns a fly shop in Santiago, and is also the distributor for Fishpond, Farbank, and Simms in Chile. We had a great Christmas dinner with him and his family on the 25th, and then left for the South the next day.

Gonzalo owns Chucao Lodge, which is actually the combination of two different fishing locations, one on Lago Yelcho and the other on Lago Rosellot. We arrived at t his Yelcho Lodge to rain, wind, and more rain. We have combatted it pretty well so far, although it has made fishing difficult at times, and has held off the dragonfly hatch which makes the Yelcho so famous.
